Breadsmart Baking Tip: Get Creative with Ingredients 🍞🥖

While traditional bread recipes are delicious and they are definitely timeless classics, don't be afraid to experiment with different flours, spices, and herbs to create unique and flavourful bread.

By getting creative, you will not only add unique and exciting flavours to your bread but also make it a fun and enjoyable experience.

Here are some of our favourite ingredients to get creative with when baking your bread:

🌿 Herbs: Adding herbs like rosemary, thyme, or basil to your bread can bring a burst of flavour that complements your favourite savoury dishes. You can use fresh or dried herbs, but keep in mind that fresh herbs tend to have a stronger flavour. You could even try adding a pinch of lavender for a sweet and floral notes!

🫒 OlivesFor a Mediterranean twist, try adding olives to your bread. Black or green olives both work well and can add a salty, tangy flavour that will transport you straight to the Greek islands. We absolutely love this variation.

🧀 Cheese: Who doesn't love cheese? Adding grated or shredded cheese to your bread dough can create a cheesy, gooey texture that pairs perfectly with soup or salad. We recommend trying it with a sharp cheddar or parmesan for an extra punch of flavour.

🍇 Dried Fruits: If you're a fan of sweet bread, adding dried fruits like raisins, blueberries or cranberries to your dough can satisfy your cravings without being too sugary. This also works well with nuts like walnuts or pecans for added texture and crunch.

🧄 Garlic: Garlic lovers, this one's for you! Adding minced garlic to your bread dough can bring a bold and savoury flavour that is perfect for garlic bread or to pair with Italian dishes. Pro tip: try roasting the garlic before adding it to the dough for an even more intense flavour.

Of course, these are just a few examples, and the possibilities are endless. The key is to experiment and have fun with it! So, grab your apron and get ready to unleash your inner baker.

But before you start, let's talk about the secret weapon that every home baker needs – a Bread-Making Tool Kit. It can really depend on the recipe. And when it comes to the amount of it that can vary depending if you want to just add it to the top of the bread or mix it with the dough.

The best way is to try a few bread recipes to test out the idea and get familiar with the bread dough. Once you get the feel of the process, what you like and how much, then you can start to experiment with your own combinations ☺️
